National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026
Submission 4207
I am writing to you regarding the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment Bill.
I am a Care Critical Care Registered Nurse, working in one of the largest and busiest Intensive Care Units in Australia.
My main concern about this Bill is that
People living with disability will experience further barriers to being able to live a life of health and quality, in turn creating an unnecessary burden on the public healthcare system.
This Bill may affect me / people I support because cutting funding will lead to:
Overall poorer quality of life
Isolation from broader community
those living with disability at a greater risk of physical and mental illness/mortality
Creates further strain on unpaid carers, such as friends and family, leading to carer burnout
Creates an additional and unnecessary burden on an already overwhelmed public healthcare system
What I want the committee to understand is that everyone in Australia is entitled to have a good quality of life, particularly those living with disability and this is why the NDIS was created for.
I do not support this Bill. I have serious concerns about cutting NDIS funding and making it overall more difficult to access for people living with disability living in our communities. It will lead to a poor quality of life and poor outcomes for this demographic, an issue that enters through the doors of the already struggling public health sector - let the NDIS do its job, so we can keep doing ours!
