I am writing as a concerned Australian to express my serious concerns regarding the proposed NDIS reforms and legislation currently being debated.
Many Australians with disability, families, carers, support workers, and advocates are deeply worried about the direction these changes are taking and the real-life impact they may have on vulnerable people across our community.
While everyone understands the importance of accountability and sustainability within the NDIS, these reforms cannot come at the expense of safety, dignity, choice, and basic human rights.
The current concerns many Australians share include:
-
Reduced flexibility for participants and families
-
Increased delays for essential supports and equipment
-
Additional barriers to accessing reasonable and necessary supports
-
Increased pressure on carers and families already under enormous strain
-
Risks of people being forced into hospitals, institutions, or unsafe situations due to lack of support
-
Automated systems and decision-making processes replacing genuine individual assessment and understanding
-
Lack of proper consultation with people living with disability and their families Australians with disability deserve to live safely and with dignity in their homes and communities. Families should not have to constantly fight, prove, justify, or battle for supports that are essential for daily life and safety.
I respectfully ask that you carefully consider the consequences of these reforms and listen directly to the voices of people with disability, carers, support workers, and advocacy groups before supporting any legislation that may cause harm.
There must also be greater focus on improving NDIA systems, reducing administrative waste, improving planning consistency, and fixing delays rather than placing further burdens on participants and families.
Please stand up for Australians with disability and ensure any reforms protect human rights, safety, fairness, and genuine choice and control.
Thank you for taking the time to consider these concerns.
