Submission 4231 — Name Withheld — NDIS Future Generations Bill

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 4231

I’m the parent of an adult male participant of The NDIS. He has multiple diagnosis which impact in every aspect of the way he lives. Mild Left Hemiplegia CP effects him when he stands for long times and when he is tired his leg will become painful, his Autism effects him with his rigid ways of doing and thinking and until 2 yrs ago he used to have massive meltdowns, he also has what they call borderline intellectual disability as his score was above 80 but below 100 all his Paediatricians have stated he will always have childish behaviours and he also has ADHD which is severe. He has been on The NDIS since 2018 and it’s been life changing for him. We’ve only ever used 3 Providers and now we are down to 1 Provider as The NDIS removed Psychology from his plan 2 yrs ago stating that because he’s being seeing her since 2018 he should be cured of his anxieties that are associated with his Autism. In his plan at the moment he has Community Participation, Respite, OT, Looking and Keeping a Job and Transport because he will never be able to gain his drivers license. We don’t use OT because my son has a bad experience with one OT and he refuses to see them again, the last time he did see an OT was to do a Capacity Assessment which stated he needed more assistance from Psychology and hours than what he was getting at the time, so they cut Psychology and I tried hard to get it returned but like I said they think he should be cured of his anxieties. Our Support Workers have been life changing and saving and no it’s not a Babysitting Service as stated by Pauline Hanson. His Support Worker takes him to the shops he loves but because of this my son feels he can call them and ask questions about his interests, he has also purchased from them online, he also has been teaching my son to use public transport which is going slowly but he’s getting there. The SW also pushes my son out of his comfort zone in a safe manner and if my son gets uncomfortable then The SW can help remove him from the situation, without his SW my son would not be able to do this, his SW also took him to his 1st ever Concert which was in a small venue and the SW made sure there was a plan if my son couldn’t cope, there’s no way he could’ve done that without his SW. Hes also tried to cook, that didn’t work out because my son has anxiety over fire and he hasn’t got Psychology to help with that. Hes also attempting to do a Course as he really wants to work. He has his SW attend with him to assist him and to make sure he keeps on task as my son does get distracted easily.

What will happen if these Supports are removed????? My son will stop interacting with others He will start his self harming again Meltdowns will start back up. Damages to our property and eventually he will probably take his own life….

The Government is proposing that family step up and take on more responsibility for our Person, that’s a laugh who do they think take up the slack. I have no family and the friends I did have stopped communicating because of my son as they couldn’t handle his differences. My Ex couldn’t handle being the parent of a Broken Person (his words). Does the Government want to lock these people away like they did in the past??? So what’s their plan for people like my son?? Ive got my own health issues but I still keep going even though there are days when I want to give up. I have been so stressed since reading the proposed changes than I’ve been ill and I don’t know if I can cope if my sons funds are cut anymore or hes kicked off… I’m just hanging by a thread now……….
