Our Son has multiple and complex disabilities and is at high risk.
NDIS changes listed by our Government will not only put our loved one at risk but also my own health.
I spoke at a forum for The Disability Royal Commission into Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disabilities.
I was invited by Commissioner Maison to then speak at the Disability Royal Commission. I chose to speak in a private session with Commissioner Maison.
The outcome of the Commission was meant to change lives for the better. I understand the Federal Government did not act many of the recommendations.
Neglect, Abuse and Exploitation is still happening. We have experienced this and an extreme violation by an NDIS funded Support Service with false allegations, last year trying to remove our loved one through QCAT, it failed. I believe it was to keep his funding.
Now it seems our Federal Government is going further, by stripping the NDIS of much needed funding to Vulnerable People with Disabilities and neglecting their Duty of Care to the vulnerable and their families.
Before the NDIS began, I was at an early meeting of Parents talking about an Insurance scheme so their young adults were not in aged care facilities and were able to live a better quality of life.
When the vulnerable in a community are not properly cared for, it tells a lot about a Government and communities.
This below was published on fb by another person. I have her permission to use the comments .. that I totally agree with.
I think we need to be stating that it’s our NDIS.
Neither major party built the NDIS.
Australians with disabilities and their families built it — through decades of advocacy, fighting for the right to live with dignity and independence.
A Labor government legislated it.
Politicians are not owners of public programs. They are managers.
Their job is to manage them well, honestly, and in the interests of the Australians those programs serve.
When they use those programs as political instruments — to hit budget targets, to settle factional scores, to manufacture narratives that suit a predetermined outcome — they are not doing their job. They are abusing the trust placed in them.
What is being done to the NDIS is not reform. It is a demonstration of exactly what happens when there is no structural protection forcing politicians to be accountable to the people their decisions affect.
No Disability Rights Act. No enforceable co-design requirements. No transparency obligations. No consequences for abandoning a publicly funded roadmap built by 10,000 Australians without a single public explanation.
They can do this because nothing stops them.
That is the argument for structural change that places people with disability permanently beyond the reach of political convenience.
Not just a better minister or a better government. Laws that make this impossible regardless of who holds power.
Please listen to the people who this change with disadvantage, the most vulnerable in our community.
