Submission 4247 — Ms Kate Alexander (Attachment 2) — NDIS Future Generations Bill

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 4247 - Attachment 2

Thursday, 22 May 2025

Dear Katelyn,

Thank you for your detailed letter regarding your son, . We appreciate the time you’ve taken to provide us with insight into his needs.

After careful consideration and in line with the limitations of our service, we regret to inform you that we are unable to offer a placement in our Before and After School Care (OOSH) program for next year at this time.

Our decision is based on two key factors. Firstly, our centre does not have the necessary facilities or staffing to accommodate children who are not yet fully toilet trained. As outlined in our policy, we are unable to provide nappy-changing facilities or support this level of care due to space and staffing constraints.

Secondly, concerns around ’s safety, particularly in relation to absconding behaviour, are significant. With only two educators on-site at any given time, we are not equipped to safely manage the level of supervision this would require. Our primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children in our care, and unfortunately, we are unable to meet ’s current needs in this environment.

Please know this decision has not been made lightly. We understand how important reliable care is for families and acknowledge how disappointing this news may be.

We would be happy to revisit ’s application in the future, particularly if he becomes fully toilet trained and there is progress with his ability to remain safely within a group setting. Should circumstances change, we welcome you to reach out so we can re-assess his needs considering our capacity and policies at that time.

Thank you again for your understanding.

Warm regards,
