Submission 481 — Ms Amanda Austin — NDIS Future Generations Bill

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 481

I am a carer of a 14yo boy with Level 5 Cerebral Palsy. He is unable to walk or talk by himself and requires 24hr care. He is however, able to communicate via an eye gaze device. Recently his funding has been cut which means no more speech pathology, now you may think that because he physically cannot speak he doesn’t require this, however these lessons have encouraged him to use his device and structure complete sentences instead of one or two words. The money spent at this age (and younger) means he will be better off the older he is, and yet this is when it’s again being cut.

Please do not pass the NDIS Amendment Bill in its current form. It removes rights, reduces choice and control, and will harm people with disability in my community. The NDIS was set up for people like my Alex. And watching his family constantly pulling their hair out from changing rules breaks my heart. It should not be this hard.

Kind regards Amanda Austin Carer
