National Disability Insurance Scheme
Amendment (Securing the NDIS for
Future Generations) Bill 2026
I am scared!
I am very scared, anxious, stressed and feeling very uncertain about my future since the announcement of the proposed NDIS Bill severe cuts to the NDIS. I have never felt more vulnerable than I do now.
I am Quadriplegic with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy(DMD), a geneOc and degeneraOve muscle wasOng condiOon. It is a permanent disability. As each year passes I become weaker. Breathing becomes more difficult. My heart becomes weaker and my ability to chew and swallow becomes more and more dangerous. As each year passes, I require more supports, not less.
I suffer from anxiety due to being vulnerable and not being able to do anything physical for myself. I am completely reliant on others to get out of bed, go to the toilet, have a shower, clean my teeth, get dressed, eaOng and drinking. My anxiousness and stress levels are the highest they have ever been since the announcement of the proposed NDIS Bill and severe cuts to the NDIS. I have a constant sick feeling in my stomach.
I self-manage my NDIS plan and have for many years. It is a lot of work but it is worth it. Due to my complex needs, this is the safest way for me to ensure that I have the correct supports in place and the most suitable people to help support me. It also provides me

with choice and control. I do not feel safe or secure with strangers supporOng me, especially with the more inOmate care that I require. I feel I should have the right to decide who touches me, washes me, wipes my backside etc. I have surrounded myself with supports I trust, feel safe and comfortable with. Is this not a basic human right?
I have tried registered providers/agencies in the past and it has never worked out well. It was always unsafe, unreliable, inconsistent and anxiety inducing. My health and mental well-being would always suffer.
I Implore you to please ensure any changes to the NDIS are made with genuine consultaOon with people with a disability, their families (some people do not have this support) and other informal supports.
Many people with disabiliOes and they made to feel that we are a burden. Many of us feel as if the government does not care enough to invest in keeping us alive. Could they decide that I am too much of a financial drain to keep me alive?
The proposed NDIS Bill and severe cuts to the NDIS is causing immense stress, anxiety and uncertainty to some of the most vulnerable people in our society. The proposed changes will ruin many relaOonships and supports that are already under much stress. I know it will affect mine.
I am already very restricted and somewhat isolated due to my disability. Tiredness, faOgue, compromised breathing, and compromised heart funcOon are a struggle. That the government wants to cut Social and Community funding will have a profound effect on my already restricted life. This will have a huge impact on the mental health and well-being of people living with a severe/complex disability.
We do not want to go back to the dark ages with an insOtuOonal mindset. We do not want to have our lives destroyed, independence taken away from us or have choice and control of our lives destroyed.
I have had many discussions with others with the same condiOon as myself. We would rather die than be placed in unsafe situaOons such as group homes, which is just another label for insOtuOonal care.
So please, again I implore you to protect me and the disabled community with complex, permanent disabiliOes, who are some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
