Sister's NDIS budget cut risks loss of home (Family or carer experience)

National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Submission 79

Dear Committee members

I am the mother of a person with intellectual disability and also have a sister with intellectual disability. The proposed changes to the NDIS will affect both of them very negatively. Especially my sister. Through no fault of our own, 50% of her NDIS budget was allocated to Community Participation by the last Planner. It is not what my sister needed and it is not what she had had in previous plans. She requires the bulk of her budget to support her activities of daily life and to assist her live in her own home, which she has done successfully for the past 18 yrs. If her community participation budget is halved without additional funding being allocated elsewhere in Core funding she will not be able to continue to live in her home! Where does the Minister think she will live? Group home living is not for her, nor is it suitable for most people, in my opinion. No one should be put in the position of homelessness because of these poorly thought through changes.

Please stop the Bill going thru in its current form, especially the 50% cut to Community Participation. It will have dire consequences for my sister and 1000s of other people with disability and their families. Yours most sincerely
