National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026 Submission 995

The National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026

Dear Senate,

I’m worried for my family, my friends, myself and my community. Disability has always been a part of my life. It’s been extremely limiting, but I’m extremely fortunate to have had this experience too. Being the eldest sibling I had to learn how to care more about my siblings and other young children. Even more so I had to learn to assist the members of my family with a prominent disability. A few years ago, I graduated high school and I tried to go to university. At the time I was undiagnosed of any mental or physical issues. Today I now know I am disabled too. I wish more people could have experienced life similar to my own experience. I learnt empathy and I’m unafraid of calling my siblings my family and other disabled people my friends. The scary reality however is my family and I cannot survive without funding for NDIS. My grandfather is 75 years old. He took my two younger siblings and I into his home 13 years ago. At the time we had no government assistance and my poor grandfather had to carry my brother into the car and I had to help keep my sister on her feet. HSP-4 causes muscle degradation and both of my siblings will permanently need physical aids. My brother who has just turned 19, cannot dress himself, cannot adjust himself in bed. He has a special aid bed, but it has issues and it beeps high pitch all night long. We cannot afford to get him a new bed and we have already ran out of funding this year for him. saved us just the other day and managed to get some more funding for carers at home. We always knew that running out of funding was a possibility. We didn’t know how we could survive without it. If we can’t get financial support, you’re essentially leaving us chained in the middle of a highway. We see the cars coming, but there’s nothing we can do. I also desperately need support. I cannot maintain a healthy routine. I am in extreme pain every day. I have multiple chronic illnesses and disabilities, but none of these are “severe” enough to warrant support from the NDIS. There are many days where I don’t see how I can more forward. I cannot work, I cannot afford the healthcare I need, I can’t afford to live on the money I’m supplied by Centrelink. I’m all out of options at this point. A year ago I had hoped that one day I could get support from the NDIS and live a more fulfilling life. I’m begging you to squash this bill and instead put more funding into the NDIS. As easy as it may be to dismiss us to you, this is our whole life. This is my family. These are my friends and this is our community and our Australia. I do not support the movement of this bill.

Sincerely,
