NDIS experience with D.I.D in rural Australia

NDIS participant experience in rural, regional and remote Australia Submission 95

Hello,

I am new to the program right now. I am a sister girl and I have D.I.D, I live in a small town that is mostly mining.

When I first applied to NDIS was after my friend and live in support person died of cancer. So I had no support and I had no transport and my nearest major shop is 1.5 hours by car and our local iga is 3 iles.

The NDIS said they recinised I had D.I.D but they did not think it effected my day to day life. It makes doing anything very difficult and I have been on DSP since I was 18 years old (now 49 y/o) due to my illness I have to plain everything and a lot of the time it just doesn’t happen because we forget about it.

I have been given 8 hours community support pre week. I can even really do anything like shopping with this and have a doctor’s appointment plus finding people that can take us on is just not able to be done.

I have no support in the week days as the only support person I have is weekend which is when I need help more but that only gives me funding for 4 hours a week I can’t do anything in that time! I need much more help from the NDIS and more access to actual people that do the actual work.

After 2 or 3 years my home now has cleaners once a fortnight as they are coming from town they charge a weeks allowance to get to my home I am meant to be getting it every week for 2 hours but because the way it is they charge 2 hours drive which it is. So again I am left with less then I should be getting. So 3 years without cleaning and only 2 hours a fortnight just isn’t going to get things finished anytime soon. This is a problem and I have only just found someone to do the lawn and that at least is done, but it took months to find it! I really need respite for at least 7 nights pre year and I have 0 right now. I was given level 1 transport and I was at TAFE so I should have been level 2 from my understanding but I did not know that at the time. I have 5 hours for someone to do cooking for me I think per week but I have not found a worker to help with this and so most of the time we live off snake foods and that is not really healthy, because some of my alters are children below school age I really need speech to text for the computer so they can send a email to our therapist if they have anything they would like to bring up, so at this stage its just too bad for them.

The government wants to save money on the ndis but there saving is not good for those on the thing and it’s defeating the purpose.

We need more help but no one can find it…
