This submission relates to planning decisions which effect a family who all have Autism and multiple disabilities. These decisions from the Toowoomba office have resulted in relinquishment of one child and destruction of employment for people with Autism
Mid 2017 I was at this stage one of the most successful female rural real estate agents operating around Brisbane. I had multiple selling records and was utilising 3D technology to get the job done. I had over 80 listings. I have Autism and severe PTSD. My oldest son was working with us - he was likely Australia’s youngest practising Auctioneer at age 20. He has Autism
My youngest son has severe Autism and profound intellectual impairment. His needs are extreme. He requires 24/7 supervision to keep him and others safe.
We were not allocated a single hour of support time. We were refused a review and the document was altered and back dated. We had no alternative but to relinquish immediately in order to remain in business.
My GP tells me of people in this region being allocated support workers to go to the shops and buy them a packet of smokes.
I had a breakdown following my son’s relinquishment and severe depression. We are still trying to transition him home however the planners at our local office are not helpful and most of what is done adds to my trauma and depression. I can no longer work and have become an NDIS participant recently following a AAT application.
I am truly disgusted at the decisions which seem to be bias towards how much favour you can curry. Very little favour given to highly stressed Autistic people who are about to breakdown. I have had to resort to requesting the Ombudsman intervene and push for access for us through Brisbane Office.
There is no difference to favour given for money or any other reason. The system is corrupt. Planning decisions need to be removed from local offices particularly in regional areas where favours are most likely to be garnished and attitude towards capacity of Autistic people is extremely prejudiced.
