FOI 20/21-796 — Description of methodology used to determine geographic information in NDIA quarterly reports

Our Reference: Response to FO! 20/21-0796

Scope

“How are participants allocated to the various reporting geographies used by the NDIA in the quarterly reports? What methodology is used and why is this not made public?”

Response

Each participant’s residential address is geocoded, meaning each address corresponds to a geographic location based on their latitude and longitude.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) mapping files then allow these geocodes to be mapped to Local Government Areas (LGAs).

Service districts, as used in the NDIA quarterly reports, are groups of LGAs specified in transition bilateral agreements between State, Territory, and Commonwealth governments.
