2 Before you start

You have read and understood:

You have:

  • confirmed there’s a completed housing application recommending SDA supports. You can find this in the Decisions tab in the most recent Housing Application case. In SAP CRM, it will be in the Interactions or Inbound documents.

Note: there may be multiple housing applications. Please review all outcomes in both PACE and SAP CRM to confirm if SDA has been recommended

  • checked the participant’s housing and accommodation information. You can find this in the Details tab in the participant’s Housing Application
  • confirmed an SDA recommendation has been made. If the participant is living in an SDA enrolled dwelling but no SDA recommendation has been made, go to article Include specialist disability accommodation (SDA) funding for participants with no assessed SDA amount
  • confirmed with the participant or nominee the SDA address is correct if living in an enrolled dwelling
  • checked if the participant is eligible for SDA. If the participant is eligible but hasn’t located an enrolled SDA dwelling or isn’t ready to move in, go to section The participant hasn’t located an SDA enrolled dwelling in this article
  • confirmed the participant is living in an SDA enrolled dwelling. If the participant has a $1 placeholder in the SDA support category and has located an enrolled dwelling, go to section Confirm the specialist disability accommodation (SDA) amount in this article
  • linked all documents you’ve used as evidence for including SDA funding in the case you’re adding the budget items from. To learn more, go to article Add and link evidence to a case.

3 Confirm the specialist disability accommodation (SDA) amount

If the participant hasn’t located an enrolled dwelling or isn’t ready to move in, go to section The participant hasn’t located an SDA enrolled dwelling in this article.

  1. Check the participant’s recommended SDA amount in the most recent housing application recommending SDA using the SDA calculator. Go to article [Use the specialist disability accommodation (SDA) calculator](/foi-library/releases/25ee9a6cf986-foi-24-25-1942-document-disclosure-log/document-011__use-the-specialist-disability-accommodation-sda-calculator/). Make sure to select the location of the enrolled dwelling.

Compare the assessed and enrolled dwelling amounts. To learn how to check the enrolled dwelling amount, go to article [Check the specialist disability accommodation (SDA) enrolled dwelling details](/foi-library/releases/25ee9a6cf986-foi-24-25-1942-document-disclosure-log/document-013__check-the-specialist-disability-accommodation-sda-enrolled-dwelling-details/). If the amounts are different, add the lesser of the two amounts when entering the support category amount.

Example 1: If the participant assessed amount is lower than the enrolled dwelling amount, use the (lesser) participant assessed amount.

Example 2: If the enrolled dwelling amount is lower than the participant assessed amount, use the (lesser) enrolled dwelling amount.

  2. If the SDA recommendation was made in a previous financial year, check the current approved amount. Make sure you include any price change. To check the SDA amount for the current financial year for:

    • the enrolled dwelling, go to article Check the specialist disability accommodation (SDA) enrolled dwelling details

    • the participant, go to article Use the specialist disability accommodation (SDA) calculator. Consider if the participant’s accommodation details have changed since the last recommendation. If they have, decide if the current recommended SDA supports can meet the participant’s needs. If not, and the participant’s support needs have changed, submit a new housing application case. To learn more, go to article Create and submit a home and living application.

Note: once the participant’s plan with SDA supports is in PACE, it will automatically apply indexation every year. The plan duration is up to 12 months. To change the duration, go to article Change plan duration.

4 Add SDA funding to the participant’s plan

4.1 The participant hasn’t located an SDA enrolled dwelling

If the participant is eligible for SDA but isn’t currently living in an enrolled dwelling, include a $1 amount in the SDA support category. Use the plan comment to inform the participant of the SDA decision. To view the pre-populated plan comment, go to article Understand and check plan comments.

Think about supports the participant may need based on their current home and living situation. To learn more, go to article Understand interim supports when there are expected changes to a home and living situation.

The $1 amount will be a placeholder until the participant has located an enrolled SDA dwelling or is ready to move and requested a plan change request (s47A).

The s47A can only be considered when the request is only for SDA funding. To learn more, go to article Create a plan variation (s47A) request.

4.2 The participant is living in or has located an SDA enrolled dwelling

You can add SDA supports from a Participant Budget Update, Plan Change or Plan Approval case. The steps will change depending on the case you’re in.

For a:

  • Participant Budget Update or Plan Change case, go to article Action a budget update. PACE will automatically pro-rata the SDA funding based on the date of the decision to vary. Make sure you still follow the process to add the SDA monthly amount. The system will calculate the total amount to be added for the rest of the plan. Any SDA claims made outside of these dates will be managed through a claims and payments enquiry.
  • Plan Approval case, go to article Change the draft budget.

Note:

  • PACE will default to the correct options: Support Budget – Capital, Budget Type – Stated, Instalment Type – Regular. You don’t need to change these.
  • Compare the annual SDA amount for the enrolled dwelling to the annual SDA amount calculated for the participant. Take the lower annual SDA amount of the two calculated and put this in the plan.

5 Next steps

  1. Add a my provider relationship with the participant’s SDA provider. Except for the $1 placeholder amount, this is mandatory so the provider can access funds. In the Manage Provider Relationship case, select Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) from the drop-down options. To learn more, go to article Add or update a provider relationship.

Talk to the participant to check if they are still using the same provider and if they want to share any plan information with the provider. To learn more, go to section Understand what happens with existing provider relationships when the participant transitions to PACE in article Understand provider relationships.

    Note:

    • Don’t add a my provider relationship for the $1 placeholder amount in the SDA support category.

    • When a participant transitions from SAP CRM to PACE with an active SDA service booking, PACE will automatically create a provider relationship with the SDA category, as well as a general my provider relationship. This could take up to 5 minutes after the plan is approved. You must still check the relationship has been created correctly.

  2. If you’re in the Plan Approval case, record this information in the Plan meeting notes. To learn how to complete plan meeting notes, go to article Add plan meeting notes.

  3. Confirm if the participant needs shared onsite support funding. This information will be in the most recent completed housing application. If they do, go to article Understand and add onsite shared support in specialist disability accommodation (SDA).

  4. Check you’ve added all funded supports to the plan.

  5. At implementation, confirm the participant knows we’ve approved SDA in the plan. This is in the SDA support category.

If the participant isn’t living in an enrolled SDA dwelling, let them know the $1 amount has been funded to inform them about their SDA eligibility. Once the participant has identified an enrolled SDA dwelling, they’ll need to notify us. SDA funding will then be added to their plan through a s47A plan variation.

Let them know if the amount included is less than they’re eligible for. For example, a participant may be eligible for $50,000 per year but is currently living in a property for $30,000 per year. If they want to move, they can look for properties up to $50,000 per year.

  6. Confirm the participant understands they’ll need to notify us if they move.
